Successes:
1. Took Chloe to the drive in. Made popcorn before we went and put in individual bowls. Took our own soda. Stopped for movie-sized boxes of Junior Mints and Milk Duds at the store so we wouldn't have to pay movie-concession prices. (We didn't need the candy, and if it was just Carey and I we would have just taken the popcorn and soda, but since Chloe was with us, I wanted to make it an extra special event.) Watched both movies of the double feature (Despicable Me 3 and Spider-Man: Homecoming), so feel like we got more for our money there. Chloe stayed up right through the late feature (it was her choice to stay for it), and was still awake when we got home at 1 a.m.!
2. Picked up 3 more days of work for August. Lost one that was previously booked, but that's okay since I had accidentally booked it for the same day as quilting day at the library.
3. I've been a bit bored, and considered making a trip to Dollar Tree or to browse Goodwill, but the truth is I don't need anything. Realizing that before I spend any gasoline or money is a good thing. What I need to do is fill some boxes to take TO Goodwill. :)
4. Having filled the freezer with meals for Carey to take to work, I found that all of our meal containers were full, and I had to wait for him to empty some containers and bring them back home. I filled up enough again to feed him for another week.
5. Carey picked up an extra day of work covering for a co-worker who needed time off.

Wow, a drive-in theater? Didn't know those were still around. Sounds like fun.
ReplyDeleteThey built this one new in New Braunfels two or three years ago. It has three screens. Same company has one in Lubbock. I think there is a drive-in in Amarillo. It will be nicer to go once the temperatures drop a bit. Though we were lucky and had a breeze pretty constantly the other night, so it wasn’t too bad.
DeleteI used to love the drive-in in California. I can remember a bunch of us from work hanging out one Saturday afternoon/evening and we decided to make tacos and take all the fixings to the drive-in. One of the guys we worked with had two armchairs in the back of his truck (the legs were sawed off so they were perfect with the tailgate down). I seem to remember one of the movies was one of those Freddie Krueger-type scary things, a summer camp where everyone kept getting killed off. One particularly gruesome death was with a drill. On Monday morning, someone scribbled "Who took the office drill?" on the blackboard by the timeclock. We all had a good laugh at that one. Goodness, timeclock? That's really dating myself. Thank you for the beautiful card, such a lovely surprise!
ReplyDeleteI like the drive in a lot. The first time we took the girls was to see Jurassic Park II, and Chloe said she wasn’t afraid in the scary parts because she felt safe being surrounded by the truck. I was really impressed that she could make and verbalize that connection.
DeleteWho took the office drill? LOL! I’ve never gone to see a gory movie. A really cute guy asked me to go see the Exorcist, and I turned him down. If it had been almost any other movie I would have gone in a heartbeat. Heck when I went to see The Poseidon Adventure I left the theater with a crushing stress headache. Boy, talk about dating oneself: The Exorcist and The Poseidon Adventure! LOL
Thanks for letting me know the card arrived! :)
