Laundry day...
I had a fun day out with the camera yesterday...wandered around outside a closed antique shop, and encountered this vintage washer.
Today, while I had laundry going in the other room, I had free time to download and edit photos. While I was having fun with this one, it occurred to me that if I didn't have my nice modern laundry appliances, I would have a lot less time for the fun stuff I enjoy.
I think it's only natural that there are days when we yearn for simpler times. But the older I get, the happier I am that I was born when and where I was, and enjoy all the conveniences and technological advances of our time.

I agree, totally. Who would want to have to stoke the fire to boil the water to boil the clothes then scrub the clothes, then wring the hot clothes out, then wait 3 days for the soaking clothes to dry (probably only to have them fall in the mud because the clothes line prop fell down!). I like my sleek (?)white beauty that is my automatic washing machine and I love my dryer even more. I'm sorry for all the carbon emissions but my clothes are clean, dried, folded and put away. Amen!

The "simpler" actually translated into "more work!" I'm with you--give me my modern conveniences! C
ReplyDeleteI agree too, mind you I still dry my clothes the old fashioned way, either outside, or now when the weather is wet and cold, in front of the fire!!!
ReplyDeleteI actually don't mind the ironing part of it, I find it therapeutic,
