The Tilted World
by Tom Franklin and Beth Ann Fennelly
The Mississippi river flood of 1927 was the most destructive flood in US history. This story adds prohibition, bootleggers, and an orphaned baby to the mix. It fulfills the 'book with multiple authors' category of the 2017 reading challenge.
I am still working away on Elizabeth the Queen...or as I am now calling it The Book That Will Never End!
This one looks like a good read. When we were in the Redwoods, there was an area that used to be a town that was completely wiped out in a flood. They had a mark on a telephone pole where the water reached.

DeleteWe have flash floods hereabouts every spring. My mother's best friend was killed in flooding after a hurricane when I was about 10, so I've never underestimated the power of moving water. And once in awhile we get the kind that come from rains upriver.
We helped a friend with clean up at her parents' house after a bad (100 year) flood. The smell is unique and unforgettable.
