Successes:
1. Signed up for the 30-day free trial of Kindle Unlimited. Enjoying reading the first free book. Put a note on my screen saver to cancel by 12/8.
2. True confession: I really like Rice-a-Roni. I found a recipe for a DIY version on Fabulessly Frugal, and it was great. It makes the chicken flavor, but I adapted it to also make the Spanish Rice flavor (to which I add ground beef, diced tomatoes, and cheese to make a one-skillet meal).
3. Mild weather means a low electricity bill this month.
4. Staying home mostly, trying to combine trips when need to drive.
5. Received pay for another article and photos.
Keep Tryings:
Some days all the effort just doesn't seem worth it. One step forward; two steps back. Carey is on vacation right now, for which we are doing absolutely nothing but staying home. Today his paycheck was deposited to the bank, and it was $400 less than normal. Gggrrrrr.
Frugal From the Kitchen This Week:

(*not-frugal takeout or dinner out)
I never was a fan of boxed rice until last year I tried an envelope type you microwave for 90 seconds. It was wonderful, but rather pricy. It was a no named brand. I have tried an Uncle Ben version which was awful. Might give this Rice-a-Roni a go. Funny what we like.
ReplyDeleteI like that I can mix up a large batch and store it in a glass jar in the pantry and make as little or as much as needed at a time. It makes an easy side dish.
DeleteRice-a-Roni has always been a guilty pleasure of mine. Can't wait to try this recipe! Thanks so much for sharing it.
ReplyDeleteThe first time I made it, I broke spaghetti into pieces, but last time I did a shop I bought vermicelli which is inexpensive and will be a LOT easier. And I used the chicken version and just added chili powder and tomatoes to make Spanish. I plan to make a beef version as well.
