No Time to Spare: Thinking About What Matters by Ursula K. Le Guin
I haven't finished either of the books I'm working my way through this week. This one (above) has been on my Kindle since 2018. While I have read some of the author's science fiction, this one is a complilation of some of her blog posts.
I've not had a lot of reading time this week; and I'm dividing it between the above, and also...
The Book Woman of Troublesome Creek by Kim Michele Richardson
This one is my book club's selection this month. I read it back in 2021, so to refresh my memory I checked out the audio book from the library, and while I'm cleaning and getting ready to hold book club, I'm listening to this one. A story of Appalachia and the remoteness and the poverty of the people, and the Franklin D. Roosevelt traveling library program to reach and educate them. It is excellent, and I am enjoying it all over again.
A book about a traveling library program sounds interesting. I read Miss Morgan's Book Brigade by Janet Skeslien Charles which was about a group of women setting up libraries in war-torn France. It's one of those dual date books - told in 1918 and 1987. An excellent read.
ReplyDeleteI read Miss Morgan's Book Brigade also. It was good.
DeleteI am popping over from The Lady of the House Speaking blog. The Book Woman of Troublesome Creek sounds interesting. I will have to check this book out. Thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting and commenting, Chrissy! Come back any time. I love talking books!
DeleteMy book club read 'the book woman' novel as well and I also listened to it while doing house work (and getting ready in the mornings). Though I don't remember much about it. Sometimes I wonder why I still read because the books' characters and storylines rarely stay with me like the books I read decades ago.
ReplyDeleteThey do tend to run together sometimes. I started keeping a list several years ago of the title, date finished, my rating, and a few thoughts about each book. It helps remind me. :) My reading list is linked as a page right under the title photo of the blog if you are interested.
