My best laid plans...

Driving home on Wednesday afternoon, the four-day weekend stretched before me like a blank canvas.  I had a massive to-do list made of all the things that needed to be accomplished, consisting of regular housekeeping as well as Christmas preparations, knowing that if I only finished half of them I would be happy.

We had already celebrated our family Thanksgiving early, so I didn't have to make a big dinner on Thursday.  I did do a small-scale version, so that we would have turkey sandwiches and such to see us through the weekend...the leftovers are the best part of the feast, after all.

Friday is where I made my mistake.  I decided to tackle a chore that had not even made it onto the to-do list.  I emptied out the car...quite the job as I've been carrying around Christmas gifts in there.  I cleaned out the console and under the seats.  I cleaned the inside of all the windows, and dusted all the surfaces.  And then I vacuumed all the carpets and upholstery.  I think that was the straw that broke this camel's back.

Such a weak back this camel has, so I took some Advil and a long soak in a hot bath.  This morning it was no better.  I ate breakfast so I could take a muscle relaxer, and then I went back to bed to read.  A few chapters in, the muscle relaxer kicked in, and sent me back to dreamland.  They must have been very amusing dreams, because a few hours later I woke myself up laughing out loud.  :)

The back is feeling somewhat better now, but I don't want to push it.  So the only chore I accomplished today was loading and starting the dishwasher.  I also started a very small jewelry piece for myself.  That's where the photo for this post comes in...I'm a firm believer of wearing my heart on my sleeve...or around my neck.

I'm hoping that tomorrow the back will be better still, and I can still scratch a couple of things off of the list.  We shall see.

  1. Gee, I hope your back is better soon. It can take the smallest of 'overdoing it' sometimes - I know! Hmm, I've never used muscle relaxers before - what's the name of them?? Here, we would use Valium (Gus does have a supply for his back if he is ever in dire straits) but we don't use them on a regular basis.
I have had hip pain for quite a while now and I think the best remedy is to forget about it. I was just thinking today, it hasn't been paining me so bad so perhaps it's on the mend.
    Take it easy, friend!

    Cheers - Joolz

  2. Funny thing, Joolz, I knew the name of what was prescribed to me to relax muscle spasms (diazepam), but I never really knew what family of drug it was. So when you asked, I Googled it. It's a generic of Valium. :)

Thanks for the empathy! I feel like all I've done lately is whine. I swear I am not a hypochondriac...really! (I just play one lately on my blog.)

  4. Poor you, do hope the back improves soon. Having had such a good productive week last week myself, this week has started appallingly - I cannot get myself motivated at all!

  5. I sure hope you are feeling a lot better now. I hate trying to do 'every day things' and then being laid out for a few days recovering. But at least you got to read and relax and that car is CLEAN.....

I have had a lot of really gross spam comments left lately, so I am having to turn comment moderation back on. To my nice blog friends, my apologies if this makes it more difficult for you to comment. To the mean naughty-talk spammers, just go away!
