Frugal Friday File 2017, week 40...

Successes:
1.  Two stay-home, no-spend days since returning home on Tuesday from the retreat.

2.  We ate the last of the twice-baked potatoes from the freezer this week.  It will be time to make another big batch for the freezer very soon.  Having a well-stocked freezer makes it easier to withstand the temptation of takeout.

3.  I worked a full day today, and it was local.  Not having to commute saves time and gasoline.

4.  Batched errands near the office today.  The office I worked at was just blocks from the library, so I picked up some reserved items at lunch, then dropped by the bank next door to the library to deposit a check.

5.  I dropped by the kids' house on my way home from work.  Chloe had just finished the first Harry Potter book, and she asked me to take her to the library to pick up the second.  I brought her home with me instead and gave her the first three of the series, which I have had forever.  I told her to donate all of them to the library when she was through reading numbers two and three.  Saved me gasoline (and I didn't want to make another trip since I had just been there at lunch today), and got stuff out of my house.

    1. Apologies for late reply. I should have thought of putting up a post, but I don’t think I will this time since I didn’t take photos at the retreat, as most of us worked on small individual projects. There was one of us who completed a quilt top that was beautiful, and I’m really disappointed that I didn’t get a photo of it. I took a lot of breaks to lie down and read (to relax my back) and took time out with a friend to stop sewing and watch Outlander and Poldark. :) We had lovely meals that we all took turns providing and preparing. One of our group has gluten allergy, and we all stretch ourselves to adapt our recipes to make sure she can tolerate and not have to provide and prepare her own meals. We are a friendly inclusive bunch. :)

  2. I need to follow your example and have some ready meals in the freezer. How fun to be able to pass on the Harry Potter books to someone who really wants to read them.

    1. For me, having the twice-baked potatoes in the freezer is so helpful. When I haven't a real plan, I know I can easily prepare a simple meat (hamburger patties or a steak) and toss the potatoes in the oven and have it look like I went to some real effort. :)

I have had a lot of really gross spam comments left lately, so I am having to turn comment moderation back on. To my nice blog friends, my apologies if this makes it more difficult for you to comment. To the mean naughty-talk spammers, just go away!
