Can't squash this...

My normal abhorrence of grocery shopping is greatly mitigated by the presence of these beauties greeting me at the market door this time of year.

The variety is amazing.  I only bought one.  I don't have a photo of the one I bought, but it is rather smallish and a sort of yellow and orange variegated.  It is sitting on my mantel.  Yes, it spurred me to take down the summer mantel decor finally, so that is worth the $2.49 cost of the pumpkin, surely.

Of course, was I meant to be decorating today (or blogging I might add)?  No!  I am meant to be getting ready for the quilt retreat.  Ah, well, it will get done...probably.

In the meantime, just looking at pumpkins makes me smile.

I want to go here:

  1. Your photos are beautiful! I noticed there were several places around Amarillo that set up Pumpkin Patches. You've inspired me to add some pumpkin pictures to my blog too. Now, if it will just stop raining.

    1. Oh, it has been so rainy here too! Quite the change for us. It was so overcast all day when I took these photos, the lighting is very dim.

  2. You could get to Huntington in a few weeks to see the pumpkin mansion. No one does Halloween better, however, than the San Antonio area! I bought mums today. I picked out four, hesitated over two more, reluctantly decided I needed six--and as I was writing out the check the man said to write it for $20...I hesitated again and then tears welled up! Generosity isn't the same as being frugal, but it was wonderful. I hope I can pass Henry Mercer's kindness on today. I have company coming today and in October. My home will be brightened by the glorious fall color.

    1. Halloween, yes, San Antonio Dia de los Muertos! But alas no leaves changing color, not much in the way of cool weather usually.

Oh, and the Pumpkin House is in Kenosha, WV. I'm hoping we will make it by.

I have had a lot of really gross spam comments left lately, so I am having to turn comment moderation back on. To my nice blog friends, my apologies if this makes it more difficult for you to comment. To the mean naughty-talk spammers, just go away!
