Braids and freckled faces...

I got called as a last-minute sub for volleyball...well...to drive the girls to volleyball practice, that is.  :)  Kasey had an obligation with one of the other kids, and Beau was working.  I know I've said it before, but I love living around the corner and getting to spend unexpected times like this with the kidlets.

Since I knew they would have about 30 minutes at my house before we had to leave, I got plain, folded cards ready for them to write to their great-grandmother.  It has been a long while since we've gotten notes off to her.

When Kasey dropped the girls off, I hurriedly dragged them out back and took a couple of quick photos.  Then I herded them back into the house so they could start writing.  They both finished nice newsy little letters in record time.

After practice, I dropped them off at home, and then I came home and printed out the photos and attached them to the front of their respective cards.  Carey's mom loves getting their letters, and she loves photographs.

They will be in tomorrow's mail.   This is possibly the most productive thing I've accomplished all week.

    1. It's a win/win. My mother-in-law always responds with a letter as well. I love that though they don't get to see her often, they really have a relationship and talk about her with us. :)

    1. They are old pros at letter writing now. It was something we started when I first moved nearby them six years ago. My mother-in-law had also just moved several hours away from her home and in with Carey’s sister, and I thought she would like it while being a good thing for the girls to learn how to do. Whenever my mother-in-law compliments me on teaching them this skill, I tell her we are equal partners and I couldn’t have picked a better one, as she answers every letter she gets from them with a handwritten note which they love. I’ve noticed that as the girls tell her what they have been doing, they follow up by asking her if she did the same kind of things when she was their age. Yesterday Chloe asked, “did they have volleyball back then?” LOL

  3. It is so important to keep the senior family members in touch with everybody. Well done! Grandma to the rescue again!

    1. I’m only one step away from being the senior family member, so I have to train them right! :)

I asked Chloe if she was going to help her children write letters to me someday. She said it depends on if I’m still alive. =O
