Happy St. Patrick's Day...

Which means I'm thinking of my mother today, as it would have been her 100th birthday!
circa 1920
Date on photo is date taken, I assume.

circa 1923
I have no idea who the blonde child is, but it sure looks like my mother was enjoying herself.  I think they were climbing on a trellis.  Not many photographs of her with a big smile, but this one looks just like she always did when she laughed.

circa 1923
So studious in her glasses.  Doesn't she look like a kid you'd see in an Our Gang movie?

circa 1940
I know I've shared this one of her here before.  This was while she and my father lived in Washington DC right after they married.  So ahead of their time.  My father moved with her when she got a job with the government.

So Happy Birthday, Mom.  I'm wearing a shamrock for you.

  2. What great photos! I'm intrigued by the Washington D.C. photo circa 1940 - how long did they live there? When Pearl Harbor was attacked in 1941? What a fascinating time.

    1. They married in ’38 and I think they moved later that year. My dad, drove a truck while there, and the govt took down streetlights and road signs in case of attack…hell for a small-town Nebraska boy. He was drafted, and my mother stayed in DC working till he got home from Pacific Theater in ’45.

  3. Isn't it weird thinking of one's parent as 100
yrs old? My dad would have been 100 on Feb 15 this year. (He passed in 1974)We celebrated by going out to dinner and toasting him.
Coincidentally my mom passed away on St. Patrick's Day.
Your mom looked like a happy lass.
