Capturing December Challenge day 5...

Today's temperature:
Mid 60s F (18 C).  Perfect temperature and a beautiful sunny day.

I took this photo while I was out this afternoon.  It does not fill me with joy.  Don't get me wrong, it is a pretty valley, but it looks like this year round...rocky, green/brown, no seasonal changes...no oranges and reds in Fall, no fluffy white in Winter.  The only break from the constancy is a few weeks of wild flowers in Spring, and then back to this for the rest of the year.

Speaking of not being filled with joy, I skipped day 4 "Joy" of the December challenge.   I am not feeling the joy.  Truth be told, I am feeling pretty prickly lately.  In the past week I have: left a slightly snippy comment on Facebook; responded to a political email a family member sent me with a very cranky reply (I did manage to refrain from using the descriptive '@$$h01e' and settled for 'idiot'...both describing the politician, not the relative); managed to really annoy my husband; and I even let a phrase used on the radio get me really cheesed off today.

I think I need to put up the Christmas tree.  I've been really dreading it, but I think it's time to just get it done and over with.  Maybe accomplishing something will change my mood.

Or maybe getting up and going to the auction tomorrow and coming home with something necessary...if I don't find something to use as a bedside table soon I am going to steal the one from Carey's side of the bed.  Mine is missing, after all, because I donated it to his mother's new down-sized space.

  1. Oh, the " @$$h01e" made me laugh!
I'm feeling a bit bah humbug this year too. I dont think I'll put up my tree unless I can find a smaller one. Thankfully, our girls are coming home for the weekend on the 19th. Kirby will stay on but Brianna has to go back to work. She has to work Christmas day morning. Maybe I'll get my Christmas mojo then!
Without the girls home, I just have no interest in Christmas. :/

    1. Glad I could make somebody laugh, Joolz!

We have lots of holidays worked around our house. Quite accustomed to having to celebrate before or after. Anybody in the hospital over Christmas will be blessed to have a nurse with Bri’s cute smile and sweet spirit. Hope you have fun with the girls while they are home.

  2. I think the lack of snow is causing my non interest in putting up our tree. Louie losing his job has stopped my list filling, but God is providing. If it would just snow, I think my holiday joy would return. This is my favorite holiday. I love the lights, and the season and the joy in people. Your joy will return. Pay it forward to someone (like pay for the person behind you in line for coffee) and watch their joy. Giving is a blessing and blesses both of you. It is better to give than to receive. Hugs!

    1. Michelle, so sorry about Louie’s job! I hope that there are wonderful opportunities ahead.

Here’s wishing you just the right amount of snow…enough for holiday cheer, but not enough to be a hazard or hardship.

Love your suggestion for paying it forward. You are so RIGHT!

  4. I spent the afternoon wrapping Christmas presents yesterday instead of packing boxes for the move. Believe it or not it is not a job I generally enjoy as I usually leave it until the last minute. Seeing the gifts all wrapped up with bows and ribbons really cheered me up so today I will be decorating the tree. No real fir tree this year but a 4ft artificial tree that could be taken down quickly if we get a moving date.
So much bad news in the world. We have floods in the north of England and my stepdaughters house in Keswick, Cumbria has been flooded and the tenants evacuated. She lives in her second house a few miles away and the family is OK although she is unable to get home from her shift in A & E in Carlisle hospital as the roads are flooded.
Sending you hugs and hoping the blues go away soon. X

    1. Thanks so much, Catherine! So sorry to hear about the flooding in the north, but glad your stepdaughter and family are okay. We have never flooded ourselves, but our area of Texas floods periodically (twice this year). Lots of deaths and destruction. In the past we have helped with the clean up, and it is a horrible job. Hope things get back to normal for all affected soon.

Glad your gifts are wrapped and looking cheery! I know if I just get started it will flow. Today was quilting day with my group, and I feel productive. Always a good thing.

I have had a lot of really gross spam comments left lately, so I am having to turn comment moderation back on. To my nice blog friends, my apologies if this makes it more difficult for you to comment. To the mean naughty-talk spammers, just go away!
