Virgin chalkboard...

Aaaah...  A whole week home alone with nothing scheduled.  Nice.

I've been completely enjoying being a recluse, and doing a few (very few) chores around the house.

Last night as I was heading to bed about midnight, I passed this blank wall and could stand it no longer.  I brought out the step ladder and chalk.  Yep...midnight.

I read somewhere that you need to 'prime' a new chalkboard by chalking over the whole thing, wipe it off with a damp cloth, and let it dry completely.  That is supposed to keep the initial art from being 'burned' onto the surface.  I kind of like the chalkboard-y nature of the result, but if I want it back to a nice crisp black, I'll wipe it down with a water/vinegar mixture.

The 'art' I put up is pretty rough...the result of going in without a real plan...no measuring...no leveling...just a wish.

I woke up this morning and was happy to see the chalk art done.  My wish did not come true, but I guess I'll have to put some backbone and elbow grease into that wish.

And I'm still working on a plan that will camouflage that sore thumb of a thermostat.

  3. Well, Michelle, that would be one solution. LOL I think it might send my husband right around the bend, however. He can’t even tolerate painted switchplate covers.

Cath, thanks. Since I wished this AFTER midnight, technically morning, maybe they'll show up tonight? :)

  4. How better to hide it than to have it blend right in? How will he even see it? It's not like it would stick out. NOW it sticks out! He should like it BETTER after you paint it. Just do it. ;) (Can you tell I do whatever I want at our house?)

  5. If they do show up, could you point them in my direction once they've finished? Thank you!

  6. What a wonderful chalkboard. You sound like me---it doesn't really matter when inspiration calls....so happy when I can abdandon whatever else is going on and follow the muse. Your artwork is wonderful....don't self criticize....and yes I wish the fairies would come to my house to helpout as well.

I have had a lot of really gross spam comments left lately, so I am having to turn comment moderation back on. To my nice blog friends, my apologies if this makes it more difficult for you to comment. To the mean naughty-talk spammers, just go away!
